Global day of giving back emphasizes importance of philanthropy to GW students.

The George Washington University will again participate in #GivingTuesday, the international day of giving for nonprofit organizations.

This marks GW’s fourth consecutive year participating in the event, which is observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

“When I learned that I had been awarded a scholarship, I knew I would be able to make my dreams come true,” said Nurik Eldosov, class of 2017, a recent recipient of the Epsilon Education Foundation Sigma Chi Scholarship. “The alumni support I have received is a vote of confidence.

Past gifts made on #GivingTuesday have supported student aid, specific colleges and schools, athletics, student life and the GW libraries.

“When you give to GW, you give the gift of education,” said Aristide Collins, vice president for Development and Alumni Relations. “Wherever you choose to direct your support, you create opportunities for GW students and faculty to make history.”

Launched in 2012 by the United Nations Foundation and 92Y, #GivingTuesday mobilizes communities to support nonprofit organizations and charities worldwide. GW’s participation last year kicked off the university’s month-long “Give the Gift of Education” effort, which emphasized the powerful impact that philanthropy has on GW students.

So far, Making History: The Campaign for GW has raised more than $900 million toward its $1 billion goal. More than 61,000 donors have made gifts to the university during the campaign.
